In preparing for the cross country meets, practice is very important. We only have a few weeks to practice before our first cross country meet. As a result, we are asking cross country team members to make a commitment to the team by attending practices on Monday and Wednesday and Friday during 2nd nutrition break(1:05-1:30).
Students will run 4 laps each noon around the back field of the school, and will receive 4 stamps on a "kilometre club” card which can be used towards "toe tokens”. Their completed "kilometre club” cards can be put into a draw for items such as a Terry Fox t-shirt, a gift certificate or a chocolate bar.
At this point we have four running events scheduled:
Woodstock
District Christian Cross Country Meet (in Stratford) --Friday
September 23
L.C.E.S.
Terry Fox Run (at
LCES)--Friday September 30 (am)
Thames
Valley Catholic Cross Country Meet (at Regina Mundi High
School)--Monday October 3
Hamilton District Christian School Cross country Meet- (in Hamilton)- later in October with only our top runners based on previous race results.
If you have any questions about your child's participation in cross country this year, please contact: Mrs. Minnesma at rminnesma@londonchristian.caor Mr. Stahle at mstahle@londonchristrian.ca
2011 Results:
Wow! What a great season of cross country running! After participating in four events this fall, the LCES cross country team will finally be able to move on to their next school sport. The team this year consisted of approximately 58 students aged 7-13 from grades three through eight.
Our first event was the Christian School Cross Country Meetin Stratfordwith other Christian schools in our area. To our delight and surprise, and in spite of a wet and very cold and rainy morning, we placed first for the thirdyear in a row among the eight Christian schools that participated. We proudly took home the banner again to display in our gym!
Our next event was the Terry Fox runheld at our school. Thanks again to Mr. Cox (Ella and Olivia Bos' grandfather for leading the way on his bicycle! About $450 was raised for cancer research from that event. We thank God for His blessings!
The next event was a cross country meet at Regina Mundiwith other the Catholic Schools in the area.
For our final event, twenty-four team members from grades 5-8 drove to Hamilton for an invitational run at the Ontario Christian Elementary Schools Meet. After running a challenging course through semi-rough terrain, LCES finished well and placed fourthout of 25 schools with a total of 450 runners. Great job, LCES cross country team! A special thanks goes to Mr. Stahle who did an awesome job at coaching the team and running the practices.
Watch for announcements coming this spring about the Kilometre Club with Mrs. Fraser the JK teacher, beginning in the spring once the back field dries up.
